Here are some of the
typical questions asked of us. Click the question for an answer.
Should I use my health insurance for your services?
Are you on my panel of providers?
We are members of most health care
panels, including Medical Mutual Plus, but not all of our staff members are on every provider list. When making an
appointment with us, let our helpful office staff know so you can be seen by one
of our professionals who is on your insurance plan.

Do I need preauthorization from my insurance
company before visiting a therapist at The Center for Effective Living?
Nearly all insurance
companies require you to call to receive authorization prior to the first
appointment. Just let your insurer know that you want
authorization for “outpatient psychotherapy.”
Most insurance companies will not authorize marital counseling, but will authorize family counseling in most instances.
If you are uncertain what services you may require from us, tell your insurer that you are seeking “psychological consultation.”
Companies will
generally provide preapproval for your initial visit with us.
If you have an appointment with us, and have not arranged prior insurance authorization,
your insurer may not cover your first
visit.

Should I use my health insurance for your services?
Many individuals who have health insurance elect not to use it for coverage of mental health services and instead pay for therapy as an out-of-pocket expense. Most often, this is due to concerns about the privacy of protected health information and the sharing of this information with health insurance companies and their affiliated entitites (which may include employers). Should you choose not to use your health insurance to cover our services, your personal information and medical records will remain completely confidential, with no access granted to third party payors or their affiliates.
